In the 1960's Barcelona was a city with industrial spirit and a vocational call for services from which was born  new economic boom with a fizz that was needed to be channeled. The renewal of Barcelona has avoided the monotony of modern planning by playing down all embracing master plans in favor to individual master plans of architects, as it is in some cases of  with brutalist architecture. This was the perfect time and place for a group of new architects to act, because they were able to look at modernism and see its lack of pragmatism. He was a man who put his money where his mouth-  following his article 'Una posible Escuela de Barcelona' (revista Arquitectura, 1969), and funded the movement known as 'La Escuela de Barcelona'. The movement defined itself with intentions to re-imagine architecture, with a modern twist and the wish to include current international trends.
