One
of the pillars in the Latin-American architecture - Eladio Dieste

Eladio Dieste |
Eladio Dieste was born in, a town in northern
Uruguay, Artigas. He studied at the University of the Republic,
Montevideo, graduating in 1943. His first years of work were for the
Ministry of Public Works.With Eugenio Montañez he founded the
firm “Dieste &
Montañez,S.A.”, in 1956. The firm still exists today, managed
by one of Dieste´s sons, Eduardo Dieste.

His work is based on achieving structural
efficiency by using ceramic tiles laminated together and combined as
thin shell vaults, as wide-curved roof spans or as sinuous walls.
These structures do not require the use of ribs and beams and are far
less expensive than reinforced concrete.
